Trauma Informed Team Leadership Programme 2024-25

Overview

Our Trauma Informed Team Leadership Programme provides an opportunity to explore the theory and concepts of trauma informed team leadership and provides an opportunity to receive support from peers.

Programme Structure

The Programme consists of an in-person training day in Oxford (Thursday 06 February 2025) and six online Action Learning Sets (February - July 2025), providing a unique opportunity to collaborate with peers to solve challenges faced when leading a team.

Who is it for?

For managers who have operational and line managerial responsibility to support teams who are working with people who have experienced trauma and you will have accountability for delivering a trauma-informed service. 

Programme Objectives

  • What trauma informed team leadership is

  • How to create psychological safety and why it’s important in leading a team

  • An introduction to Humble Inquiry and how it can support trauma informed leadership

Through the Action Learning Sets you will have an opportunity to examine how you apply the approach to your work.

 How can this programme support you to develop your team leadership skills?

  •  Leading teams is a complex task, and leading in a way that is trauma informed needs thought, reflection, skill and support. This programme will provide you with the foundation and processes to implement trauma informed team leadership. 

  • Finding the balance between the needs of the organisation and the needs of the people you manage needs to be navigated. This programme will support you to find this balance.

  • Having an opportunity to explore with peers through action learning can support you to be an even better leader. This programme provides the space for reflection with others in similar roles to yourself, helping you to find solutions together.  

The Trauma Informed Team Leadership Programme is for leaders who:

  • Manage a team of people who are working with people who have experienced trauma

  • Have at least two years’ recent experience of implementing a trauma informed approach within an organisation

  • Work within an organisation that is striving to become trauma informed.

Dates and venue

  • Trauma informed Team Leadership in-person training day: Thursday 06 February 2025 in Oxford

  • Action Learning Sets Feb 2025 – July 2025: every fourth Thursday of the month, online via Zoom.

Costs

£800 plus VAT per person for the programme. This cost includes the training day and the six online action learning sessions.

Participants will look at their organisational existing policies, consider what might be amended from a trauma-informed perspective, and think through the development of new trauma-informed policies.

By the end of this workshop, you will have:

• a clearer understanding of what you already have in place

• what needs to be developed

• what is required to embed trauma informed policies across the organisation

Cost:
£95 + VAT

Timings:

Registration begins at 9am, with the course starting at 9.30am and finishing at 1pm.

No longer will your policies be stuck in a folder in a dusty drawer, they will become living, trauma informed, applied documents that move you closer to your goal of being a trauma informed organisation.

Becoming Trauma Informed Awareness Training

Overview

This one-day online course is designed to support staff in organisations to develop an understanding of the dynamics and process of trauma, inform practice and support system change.

Course Objectives

  • To understand the pervasiveness of violence and the impact it has upon people.

  • To know the definitions of trauma, and what being ‘trauma-informed’ means.

  • To understand how knowledge about trauma can make your work easier and safer.

  • To learn about self-care for you and those you work with.

Evidence base

One Small Thing curricula and work is rooted in over 30 years of research, development and expertise of pioneering and leading US expert in evidence-based trauma-informed practice, Dr. Stephanie Covington. UK research conducted in partnership with the University of Portsmouth, demonstrates the impact trauma-informed work can have.

Who is this training day for?

If you are interested to find out how trauma impacts upon people and how you can start to work in a way that takes this into account, this course would be useful for you.

Cost

£190 plus VAT per person.

We currently offer one discounted ticket for organisations with an income under £350,000. Discounted tickets: £114 plus VAT per person.

Overview

Our brand new Trauma Informed Team Leadership Programme provides an opportunity for senior leaders to explore trauma informed team leadership. The programme consists of an in-person training day in Oxford (06 Dec 2023) followed by six online Action Learning Sets (Jan - Jun 2024), providing a unique opportunity to collaborate with peers to solve challenges faced when leading a team.

Programme details

Through one in-person learning day and six action learning sets (one per month), this programme explores:

  • the application of trauma informed values to workplace issues and team leadership

  • how staff (including ourselves) are vulnerable to the impact of trauma and to recognise the  indicators

  • how to adjust what we do within our roles, to take account of trauma and leading in ways that support recovery and promote participation of our teams

  • the complexity that exists when working with others and thinking about how a trauma informed approach helps us navigate complexity

 How can this programme support you to develop your leadership skills?

  •  Leading teams is a complex task, and leading in a way that is trauma informed needs thought, reflection, skill and support. This programme will provide you with the foundations and processes to implement trauma informed leadership. 

  • Leading teams can also trigger our own trauma responses. This programme will support you to build self awareness of your own triggers and how you can respond in a trauma informed way.

  • Finding the balance between the needs of the organisation and the needs of the people you manage needs to be navigated. This programme will support you to find this balance.

  • Having an opportunity to navigate with others can support you to be an even better leader. This programme provides the space for reflection with others in similar roles to yourself, helping you to find solutions together.

The Trauma Informed Team Leadership Programme is for Senior leaders (Directors or similar) who:

  • Manage a team

  • Have at least two years experience of implementing a trauma informed approach within an organisation

  • Work within an organistion that is striving to become trauma informed.

  • One-day team leadership training day: Wednesday 6 December, The Studio, Old Fire Station, Oxford - Hires | Old Fire Station, Oxford

  • Action Learning Sets Jan 2024 – June 2024: every fourth Thursday of the month, online via Zoom.
