Who is this training day for?

This one-day in-person course is designed to equip HR professionals or those with HR responsibilities, with the knowledge, skills, and tools to carry out HR functions in ways that are psychologically safe, relational, and non-retraumatising, whilst still meeting organisational and legal responsibilities.

Course objectives

• How to recognise how trauma appears in the workplace

• How to apply trauma-informed values to People and Culture within an organisation

• Create an action plan to put your learning into practice

Trauma-informed six core values: Safety, Trustworthiness, Choice, Collaboration, Empowerment, Cultural Consideration

Course structure

Registration with teas and coffees: 9.30 – 10am

Training: 10am start – 4.30pm finish

Lunch & refreshments will be provided. Please ensure to indicate any dietary requirements when you book.

Information Session | Thurs 10 Sept 2026 at 12pm

The One Small Thing flagship Trauma-Informed Management Programme explores the theory and concepts of managing teams in a trauma-informed way and helps managers understand how to apply the theory in their role.

 

Programme Structure

-        one in-person training day in Oxford on Wed 03 February 2027 with Dr Frances Maclennan, One Small Thing trainer

-        plus six, monthly online Action Learning Sets with Rose Mahon, One Small Thing trainer

 

On the in-person training day we will:

·        Explore the context in which you work

·        Help you identify your strengths, pain points and levers of change

·        Introduce four trauma-informed tools to support you in your role

·        Support you to create an action plan for your next steps

 

Action Learning Sets

The six, monthly online Action Learning Sets are a unique part of the Programme, providing you with an ongoing, facilitated space for reflection with others who are in similar roles to yourself, to help you find your solutions to managing your team.

The Trauma-Informed Management Programme is for managers who have:

  • direct line managerial responsibility for a team who are working with people who have experienced trauma

  • a reasonable understanding of trauma-informed practice and approach

  • ideally work within an organisation or service that is striving to become a trauma-informed workplace.

Cost £840 per person plus VAT.

Facilitators One Small Thing’s Rose Mahon and Dr. Frances Maclennan are highly experienced group facilitators who lead this programme.

Becoming Trauma Informed Awareness Training

Overview

This one-day online course is designed to support staff in organisations to develop an understanding of the dynamics and process of trauma, inform practice and support system change.

Course Objectives

  • To understand the pervasiveness of violence and the impact it has upon people.

  • To know the definitions of trauma, and what being ‘trauma-informed’ means.

  • To understand how knowledge about trauma can make your work easier and safer.

  • To learn about self-care for you and those you work with.

Evidence base

One Small Thing curricula and work is rooted in over 30 years of research, development and expertise of pioneering and leading US expert in evidence-based trauma-informed practice, Dr. Stephanie Covington. UK research conducted in partnership with the University of Portsmouth, demonstrates the impact trauma-informed work can have.

Who is this training day for?

If you are interested to find out how trauma impacts upon people and how you can start to work in a way that takes this into account, this course would be useful for you.
