One Small Thing September 2022 Update

Hope Street Update

The Hope Street main site is getting ever closer to opening it's doors to women and children. The windows are in, the residential building has been fitted out with kitchens and internal finishes, and the Hub building interior is progressing at pace. The first of our network of Hope Houses is also complete, and is now home to four women who have been affected by the justice system.

Our latest blogs

The latest blogs from our Women’s Involvement Advisor Lilly Lewis include a focus on the Probation Service. Lilly reflects on having just finished her license, and explains why change is needed if we want to see prison leavers thrive and succeed.

In another blog, written for International Youth Day, she speaks with her daughter on what it was like for her having a Mum in prison, and what advice she has for other young people in this situation.

JUSTICE Podcast

Edwina, One Small Thing's Founder and Chair, speaks to guests who all have different relationships and experiences with the justice system and share what could and should be done to make the system work better.

Recent episodes include a focus on the UK’s criminal record system. She speaks to two supporters of the 'Fair Checks' campaign Sir Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin, and Paula Harriott from the Prison Reform Trust. Other recent episodes include an interview with Natasha Finlayson, Chief Executive of Working Chance, and exploring Justice through a literary lens with Harriet Still, the curator of Thomas Hardy’s Wessex exhibition.
